The fact that Johannes Hevelius was a well-known astronomer and constructor of the telescope and other devices for astronomical measurements is generally known. However, his other activities are not so famous – namely, this man from Gdańsk was also a brewer. What is more, brewing had been practiced by his great grandfather, grandfather and father and Hevelius himself married Katarzyna Rebeschke, a daughter of another Gdańsk brewer.
The beer brewing tradition in Gdańsk goes back to distant history and after some stagnation it has just come back to our City with a flourish.
Therefore, you are encouraged to follow the trail of Gdańsk breweries, guided by a beer expert, Hevelius himself, who will show you three currently operating climatic taverns brewing their own beer. A lecture by a professional brewer and, of course, beer tasting at each tavern seem inevitable in this situation! Let’s not forget about visiting compulsory tourist attractions located by the Royal Road, Długie Pobrzeże and charming Mariacka Street.
Within the tour schedule there will also be a number of riddles and animations connected with amber, Goldwasser liqueur or Kashubian snuff, prepared by our suitably made up animators. Aside from knowledge, our guide – Johannes Hevelius – will also provide his Guests with souvenirs – brew to prepare at home and a bottle of regional beer.
